The Centre for Research and Technology-Hellas (CERTH) is the only research Centre in Northern Greece and one of the largest in the country and it was founded in 2000. It is a legal entity governed by private law with non-profit status, supervised by the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT) of the Hellenic Republic. More than 800 people work at CERTH with the majority being scientists. CERTH has received numerous awards and distinctions such as the European Descartes Prize, the European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant, Microsoft International Contest Prize, the Trading Agents Competition Award and many more. CERTH has participated successfully in more than 1.200 competitive research projects (with a total budget exceeding 450 M€ and involving more than 1.100 international partner organizations) financed by the EU, leading industries from USA, Japan and Europe and the Greek Government via the GSRT. CERTH will participate with the Institute for Bio-Economy and Agri-Technology (iBO). iBO focuses on the scientific field of agri-technology and the broader scientific area of bio-systems engineering under the integration of multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary specializations and research units. At the same time, iBO’s research priorities include rational environmental management and sustainability assessment of bio-production activities, and the optimisation of human interactions within these activities, all in the direction of adopting the principles of the circular economy. iBO’s philosophy lays on a multiple-disciplinary approach toward the development and advancement of technologies dedicated to the bio-production systems domain, including crop production, livestock, and fisheries, under the external framework of economic development, welfare, and environmental impact alleviation, while in parallel it generates new technological paradigms shift for other domains.

Description

The Agricultural University of Athens (AUA) is the 3rd oldest university in Greece. Since 1920, contributes consistently and continuously to Greek and European agri-food sector development, by conducting basic and applied research in agricultural related sciences and technology. AUA conducts 1/3 of the agricultural research in Greece. The University is situated on a green campus not far from Athens city centre. AUA campus is a complex of 16 buildings comprising of auditoriums, 48 fully equipped laboratories, a modern library, computer clusters and extensive agricultural facilities. AUA offers extensive research facilities in its laboratories and also innexperimental farms of a total area of 180 hectares. AUA contributions address a wide range of issues related to food safety and environmental protection significantly affecting the daily lives of Greek and Europeans citizens: food quality and safety, water resource conservation, organic farming, alternative energy sources, biotechnological applications, information and communications technology.

AUA is represented in AgroSYS Project by two laboratories: (a) the Laboratory of Farm Machine Systems and (b) the Viticulture Laboratory.
